Q: What is a capital campaign? A capital campaign is an intensive fundraising effort, for a well-defined need, over a limited period of time, to raise a specific dollar amount, beyond the annual giving of a congregation.
Q: What exactly did we commit to? On Sunday October 5, 2008, our congregation voted to move forward with a capital campaign to raise $800,000 to fund: • Capital improvements to our church facility - $469,000 • Housing for future pastors - $240,000 • Outreach commitment - $60,000
Q: Whose idea was this capital campaign? Our congregation’s! Over the past three years, we voted to accept our new vision, mission statement and goals; the Capital Campaign Study Committee produced a Case Statement outlining the needs of our church; and last fall we voted to have a capital campaign to fund those needs in alignment with our vision and mission.
Q: How were the capital needs originally determined? With the help of the Trustees and the congregation, a prioritized list of repairs and upgrades to our facilities was created. We also acknowledged that our future pastors will need a place to live. We may no longer have the luxury of pastors who already own their own home. And we will honor our commitment to the Together for Tomorrow campaign of our annual conference, plus fund micro loans.
Q: When does the campaign begin and end? The campaign actually began with the vote last October to proceed, and the Leadership Team was selected in January 2009. Our pledges of support will be consecrated on Celebration Sunday May 10, 2009; and the 3-year giving period will begin on May 17, 2009 and conclude at the end of May 2012.
Q: Who will be asked to support this campaign? This campaign is a whole church effort. Everyone will be asked to participate, giving in proportion to their resources and personal circumstances.
Q: How will we raise the funds? Connections by mail and/or a visit will be made with every household. Campaign Stewards will schedule a time to talk about life at Holy Trinity and will bring Letters of Intent for each friend and member to complete. These commitments will be private decisions that do not need to be discussed with the visitor and information will be known only by the Recorder Jenn Piscitello.
Q: What happens if the capital campaign does not reach its financial goal? All recommended improvements to our facilities have been prioritized by the Trustees beginning with a new heating system. Lower priority items will need to be put aside until additional funds are raised. However, please remember that a feasibility study indicated that Holy Trinity is capable of reaching its goal over a three-year period.
Q: How should I decide how much to give? This very personal decision should start with prayer. The Guidelines for Faithful Giving, listed below, offers suggestions for giving in proportion to our blessings. Remember, all gifts – large and small – are important to achieve the total goal.

Q: How long will I have to fulfill my financial commitment to Holy Trinity? The giving period will begin on May 17, 2009 and conclude in May 2012. This is a three-year giving period, and four tax years.
Q: Will the capital campaign accept donations other than direct cash gifts? The capital campaign can accept cash and the selling or transfer of stocks, bonds, and real estate. There are other creative ways to find the financial resources including the selling of jewelry, antiques, artwork, and life insurance policies.
Q: Will memorial and commemorative gifts be accepted? Most definitely! This is a wonderful way to honor or remember a relative, friend or organization.
Q: Can I designate to which part of the campaign my money will go – the facility improvements, the parsonage, or outreach? No. All money raised by the campaign goes to a single fund which will be used to finance all three areas of need.
Q: How will the Live our Faith, Launch our Future campaign benefit our congregation? We expect many benefits from our campaign. A revitalized facility will help our ability to grow, allowing us to better serve our members and the surrounding community. A parsonage allows us to select from a larger pool of candidates, giving us the best pastors from which to choose. Our outreach opportunities not only benefit their recipients, but enrich the lives of the people of our congregation who participate in this vital work of God.
Q: How can I obtain additional information about the Capital Campaign? Any member of the Capital Campaign Leadership Team will be glad to talk with you.
